Kean University Dance Ensemble (KUDE) is the university's student dance company that showcases entertaining, captivating, theatrically diverse, high-spirited works. Dances are choreographed by faculty, guest artists, alumni and students. Under the artistic direction of Luis Martinez, dance professor for the Department of Physical Education, Recreation & Health, productions feature new and repertory works that encompass a broad range of genres which include contemporary modern and jazz, classical, urban and ethnic dance forms.

Shanghai Ballet's The Butterfly Lovers

Friday, October 18 at 7:30 p.m.

For more than three decades, the Shanghai Ballet has been dazzling international audiences with its unique repertoire of folk-infused Chinese ballet and classical Western masterworks. The Company will perform the "Romeo and Juliet" of Chinese folklore—a poignant love story that dates to the Tang Dynasty. The Butterfly Lovers follows a young couple's ill-fated romance through elegant choreography, splendid costumes, and evocative sets depicting the natural—and supernatural—worlds. These masterfully trained dancers convey the story's bittersweet beauty with expressive hand gestures and theatrical pantomime, evocative complements to their stunning classical technique.

Moscow Festival Ballet's Swan Lake

Set to the music of Tchaikovsky, Swan Lake is a romantic tale of true love and forgiveness taken from Russian folklore and German legend. This enchanting story follows a heroic young prince as he labors to free the beautiful swan maiden from an evil sorcerer's spell. Filled with colorful costumes and backed by a sweeping score, Swan Lake is considered one of the greatest classical ballets of all time. Founded by Sergei Radchenko, legendary principal dancer of the Bolshoi Ballet, the Moscow Festival Ballet melds the highest classical elements of the great Bolshoi and Kirov Ballet companies in an independent new company featuring principal dancers from across Russia.

This program of works inspired by the best composers and choreographers of the Broadway stage is just what you need to help you spring into the new season: jazzy, snazzy, pulls-out-all-the-stops. Program will include the action-packed Challenge Dance from Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, and the sexy, sassy Too Darn Hot from Kiss Me Kate, both staged by award-winning Paper Mill favorite Patti Colombo, Three Penny Dances with music by Kurt Weil, and James Kinney's March set to music by Stephen Sondheim and George Gershwin.

New Jersey Ballet presents this beloved classic with splendid dancing, colorful costumes, beautiful sets, wickedly funny stepsisters, a magical fairy godmother, a handsome prince and a pumpkin which turns into a coach before your very eyes! You'll be transported to a fairytale world where all is tuneful, graceful and ends happily ever after. Cinderella is accompanied by New Jersey Ballet's original "storyteller" narration so even the littlest theatergoers can keep up with the story.
